Overview
AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. AVID is a yearlong elective class offered to students who successfully complete the application process and who are selected for the program. The AVID curriculum stresses writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, note-taking and study skills and provides a support system for students aspiring to attend a postsecondary institution upon graduation from high school. Other requirements for applicants are: satisfactory citizenship, good attendance, and a minimum GPA of 3.0.
